I’d like to say that I’m feeling like a young chicken, but that’s not the case. Because playing in an adult kickball tournament will bring out ALL of the aches and pains that you never knew existed. And that’s how I’m feeling on this Monday morning. Sore.
Let me back up. Friday evening, we went to our little neighboring town of Fairfax to join in on all of the Fairfax USA Days festivities. Friday night began with the kids’ kickball tournament. Our boys played in this last year and loved it so much, we HAD to sign up again this year.
It’s a popular event because over 70 kids signed up. The boys’ team played first and it was the never-ending game. They kept tying and after ten innings or so (at least four more than the average kickball game) and almost TWO hours later, their game ended. They lost, but technically everyone won (they received a Dairy Queen certificate and green ribbon AND this Mom and Dad didn’t have to be up early Saturday morning for the championship game. Win win for sure.).

Maxim going in for the big kick 🙂
Look at the line-up… #toughbunchofkids 🙂
Saturday, we went to the parade. Honestly, Fairfax has the BEST parade. So many participants in the parade and of course, the kids get lots of candy, necklaces, and freeze pops. Tons of people line the streets to watch the festivities.
Let the parade begin!
The gang ready to grab some loot!
This boy…he’s ready to get some candy 🙂
After the parade, we made our way to the Fairfax Sports Complex for the adult kickball tournament. Walford Warriors were back at it again for the second year in a row, trying to snag the championship title. Well. We were all heart, but not quite the winners. But can I tell you how much fun we had?? I LOVE me some good, competitive games of kickball. I’m sad to say that I didn’t take a picture of our team, but Nate snapped this one from the dugout.
A fierce game of kickball

Anyway. On to important things…like what we wore. The guys wore gray t-shirts and the gals…well, we wore cute, bright orange tank tops. We may not have won, but we were fashionable. #fashionmatters
Hubby had the jeep at the festivities and I snapped this picture…
Love this boy!
We hung out after our defeat, nursing some aches and pains. Next year, we realize that our game will be all BOSS if we can just kick line drives #popupsarenotgood
And by nighttime, we were ready to watch the spectacular display of fireworks that the Fairfax Firefighters put on. This is the BEST display! They do an outstanding job! And when you are in the front row watching them, you can feel the boom. Or as Maxim yelled when they lit off the BOOMING finale…”Those fireworks just dropped my tummy!” 🙂
Awesomeness! (though my photography skills don’t do the fireworks display justice)
A better picture 🙂
Fairfax USA Days…definitely one of our favorite things about summer.
On Sunday, though stiff and sore from all of that hustling and kickball playing, we got the Jeep back out and took it for a cruise…
A Sunday drive 🙂
A great weekend celebrating the joys of living in a small town!
