Weekend Recap: Sightseeing at The Dumont Museum and jumping around at Airfx

I’m just coming off of a four day weekend.  It has been so nice.  For the record…a four day weekend never gets old.  The boys’ school had Monday and Tuesday off for teachers’ inservice meetings.  So, we lived up the fall weather and enjoyed the time off from school.

Friday, the boys’ school had their annual fundraising event…the Hawk Walk.  And though it was as windy as a TORNADO, we had the Hawk Walk up at the high school track.  Oh, the fun of watching kindergarten through fourth graders walk around the track as they celebrated their fundraising efforts.  They were over-the-top excited about this.  The 80 mph wind didn’t even dampen their spirits.  No.  If you were within an earshot, you were fortunate enough to listen to every elementary girl belt out every single word to the song, “Frozen”.  And there were plenty of other pop songs that got the students jumping and jivin’.  It was pure fun.  Pure fun, I tell you.

On Saturday morning, Hubby and I took the boys and we met my parents.  You see, my mother had done a little research.  And she found out about this museum.  Dumont Museuem.

Let me share with you about this teenie weenie little tourist spot located in the heart of rural Iowa.  About a mile or two south of Sigourney, there is a antique tractor, train, and toy museum.  They do charge an admission, but it was worth it.  It provided a morning of ohhh’s and ahhhhh’s.  We were in awe of the train displays, antique toys and tractors, and memorabilia that was on display.

The boys absolutely loved watching the owner start up all of the different train sets.

So many details were put into making these displays.

Papa Joe admiring the workmanship.

Farm scenes, circus scenes, and the list goes on and on…

There were different rooms with so many things for one to see.  One is sure to go back in time…I know I did.  I saw some Barbies that were just like the ones I had played with growing up.  They have so many toys and other antique memorabilia for one to see.  Hubby and I laughed over seeing the A-Team van, John Wayne’s underwear (for real…or maybe just the brand “John Wayne underwear”), and Barbara Mandrell’s pink lace cowboy boots with her matching dress.  (Of course, my mind went back to 3rd grade and I wanted to belt out her song, “Sleeping Single in a Double Bed”.)

Then, we went into a different building where you saw various antique lawn mowers, tractors, riding toy cars for kids, bikes, and more.

Oliver tractors, antique bikes, and riding lawn mowers…a Picker’s dream.

Though I’m not getting paid to advertise for Dumont Museum, I highly recommend you take your kiddos there.  We all admired the collections that this couple has put on display.

Now, let me jump ahead to Tuesday…(such a nice segue, you’ll see)

Yesterday, I took the boys to Airfx.  Otherwise known as the “jumping trampoline indoor playground”.  We met some friends there and let me tell you…that place is FUN!

Getting ready to go JUMP!

We paid for one hour of “jump time” and we loved it!  Well, except for this next part.  Which might be too much information for you male readers, so skip this if needed.  I can only say that all of that jumping does wonders for one’s bladder.  note:  sarcasm.  Seriously, all of you mothers out there.  You know what I mean.  Having children only inhibits a bladder from functioning as one normally should.  And I was having to go to the bathroom about every ten minutes.  Not joking.

But Airfx was so much fun that we said we MUST bring Daddy back.  With unending trampolines, basketball hoops, and dodgeball…it’s non-stop fun for the whole family.  Even for moms.  As long as the line to the bathroom isn’t long.
